EXTRA : The GUID

Instructor: Grapholina

Find other objects that you previous cloned and look up each one in Tmog. Do you see your cookie number in there? The first two and the last two digits will always change. The center 4 will always remain the same because that is your Cookie number. And if you own more than one cookie number — shame on you. You should do the right thing and give the extra one(s) back so that others just now acquiring Tmog can put them to good use. When you are done checking old objects, close Tmog, but do not delete your cloned SUV, we're going to use it as we explore the second method for looking up GUID numbers.

Method 2:  Using IFF

Open IFF Pencil 2, and pull up your cloned "carsuv" file, click on OBJD, and then double click #16807 to open up that section.

Fig. 1.5

How did I know which line to click on? I know to click on #16807 because that is the only number that has "Car - SUV" and nothing else after the name (like Row 3, Tile 1, etc.). The SUV is a "multi-tiled" object (unlike a chair that has only 1 tile) and therefore requires several GUID numbers. Everything in the game is an object and every object requires its own unique ID.

Note:  This is the reason why if you need to look up the GUID for a Maxis object, method 2 is the only way to go. Tmog does not show you GUID's for each draw group.

Scroll down until you see GUID info. Take a look at the number beside Global Unique ID. It should be your clone GUID that contains your hex format Cookie number. Also, notice the number directly beneath. If you'll compare, you'll find that's the same GUID number as the Maxis SUV object before you cloned it. The "Original GUID" is the GUID of the object you cloned from.

To recap, the GUID (Global Unique ID) is the number assigned to your cloned object, and the OGUID (Original GUID) is the number of the object you cloned from. That's it for our friend, the GUID.
